When Dad Is Not Home

Just like a child that yearns for the presence of his father during his or her formative years, a father, also, that is miles away from his children longs for the child's kiss and yes, even the duty and responsibility of being a father itself.

However, because of practicality and financial need, it is almost inevitable that a father stays around with his children to look after their growth and development. He sacrifices his time with his children and leaves them behind to provide a comfortable living for his family. That was the scenario of the past.

With recent developments in communication, science and technology, living away from home is no longer a reason for a father to be unable to provide guidance to his children. In today's world, a familiar cliche is often said, that is, that now all things are possible. The most important thing that a father should do in order to keep his presence felt by his children and family as well is to keep constant communication with them.

There are gadgets, such as cellular phones, the internet or even snail mail to update his family from time to time and to even close the communication gap. A simple and short phone call is indeed necessary so that little children in their formative years can remember and identify their father's voice and not to build barriers between him and his father.

A video recorded on a CD is another method in keeping his family updated. A digital camera does great wonders in helping families be updated with physical changes and appearances. These images, unlike before can now be sent in seconds through e-mail. In such a way, the children will be reminded of the looks of their father and thus, setting aside the alienation feeling.

Another method is through journal writing. Writing down a few of life's lessons that is learned everyday by the breadwinner and sending them back home when full, is tantamount to guiding them with wisdom and thoughts that can help the child grow emotionally intelligent. These methods can indeed help his children be guided in their emotional as well as spiritual well-being.

Thus, through these modern methods of communicating, a father that is miles away from his children will certainly make up with his physical absence. Children will now be reminded of the great person they have. They will treasure the man who brought them to life and will surely recognize that unconditional love that their father has for them.

The children may not show it overtly through their teenage life but in their hearts, a great love and memories will surely grow. Memories that will make them the best person they can be. Whatever lessons they will get from their father will be the man of the house's greatest legacy in life inasmuch as through setting a perfect example of rearing and guiding a child even if he is not physically present, the children will have role models and ideas for becoming a good head of the family someday.

Fathers indeed, serve as the children's guide towards the path of righteousness, the source of wisdom, comfort and strength. Thanks to technology, no place is now too far for the man of the house.
